What to Expect When You Visit
The first step is to buy your ticket and it’s highly recommended that you buy it in advance.
The second step is to clear security before boarding the ferry to Liberty Island. As security is very serious for visitors to the Statue of Liberty, everyone has to clear security. That includes x-ray inspections of baggage and walking through metal detectors before boarding the ferry.
When you depart from Battery Park (Manhattan) the ferry will first stop at Liberty Island. All passengers must disembark on Liberty Island even if they want to skip visiting Liberty Island and continue directly on to Ellis Island. The ferry returns to Battery Park after travelling from Liberty Island to Ellis Island. As a matter of visiting, the ferry route runs in reverse while travelling from New Jersey and visiting Ellis Island that is first followed by Liberty Island.
The ferry rides between each stop run for about 10 minutes and allow extra time for boarding and disembarking.
Note: In case of any visitor who enters the Statue for either pedestal or crown access will have to clear security again.

Visiting With Kids
For children under the age of 4, they can take the ferry to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island free of charge. Minors under 17 must be accompanied by an adult over 25 when travelling to visit the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.
Strollers are not permitted to enter the Statue of Liberty, this is for pedestal, museum, and crown area. On the other hand, they are allowed on the ferry and around Liberty Island. You can happily run around and relax on Liberty Island.
Note: Children must be at least 4 years old and 4-feet-tall to climb to the crown.

The closest Subways to the Statue of Liberty are as follows:
- 4/5 to Bowling Green; N/R to Whitehall Street;
- South Ferry (Make sure you are in either of the first 5 cars of the train to exit at South Ferry and follow the signs to Castle Clinton if you want to buy tickets and take the ferry to the Statue of Liberty.

Tips for Visitors
- Minors under 17 years of age must be accompanied by an adult 18 years or older to board the ferry.
- You have to allow at least 2 hours to visit one island and 5 hours to visit both islands.
- Pass through airport-level security before boarding the ferry.
- In case you depart after 2 pm, you will only be able to visit either Liberty Island or Ellis Island because there will not be much time to visit both landmarks.
- The box office closes 15 minutes before the last departure time. Please arrive 45 minutes early to allow time for obtaining your boarding Statue of Liberty tickets before the box office closes. This is if you are sailing on the last departure.
- Before departing, you must find your storage.
- In order to obtain the flex ticket, you must show your CityPASS.
